"I believe that it is this sense of connection that inspires me to create dance, to explore life, land, faith, spirituality, death, rebirth, and the relationship between faith and dance creation. Sometimes, it takes a long time of meditation and exploration. When the dance begins, it feels like I am with them, eyes closed, taking deep breaths, centered in my body. As the music starts to play, I begin to move, my body swaying gently to the rhythm of the drums. I feel a deep connection to the land around me (the crushed leaves turning into sand), the ground beneath me no longer hard cement, but soft soil, the wind blowing through my hair. Through fluid movement, my body expresses the beauty and power of the natural world. When the melody changes and the movements become more intense and urgent, I explore the song in my mind, my body twisting and spinning as I express the passion and conviction of those who hold onto their faith in adversity. As the climax is reached, I fall to the ground, my body shaking as if in the throes of death. But even lying motionless, the mind continues to move, representing the eternal cycle of life and death, the constant rebirth and renewal of the natural world. I rise up, my body restored with energy, my spirit alive with vitality, embodying the power and resilience of those who face death and return. As the dance draws to a close, seemingly close but far away, with eyes closed, I feel them by my side, souls rising to dance with me. Dance is a ritual, a way of showing respect to the land and spirits that guide us to this place. This fluid movement is one of the ways in which I establish a connection with nature and ancestral spirits, bridging the gap between past and present, life and death. When I open my eyes and look around, I feel a deep sense of gratitude and a subtle, inward touch, a feeling of becoming part of something greater than myself. Perhaps this is the true meaning of my dance: the power of connection, the beauty of life, and the eternal cycle of death and rebirth that weaves us all together.
